  1. I totally agree with the subject matter that Dasun Shanaka is properly treated and managed he will become the world best batting all rounder as well as the world best power hitter. Everything is explained by me below.

    Its very sad to note that our selectors, captain and the coaches have not realized the true value of this young & high performing player who is the only solution to improve the poor performing lower middle order batsmen in our ODI team

    Dasun Shanaka should get more recognition from our selectors, coaches and captain for his super performances in the ODI team. He has been playing as a batting all rounder, whose ideal batting position should be no 6, although in many occasions he was sent to bat at lower positions like 7 & 8 where he was unable to show his true strength in playing a long & rapid inning. Let’s summarize some of his great abilities;

    (1) He is the only batting all rounder SL have got who can help to increase the RR tremendously in the middle overs with his extraordinary power hitting ability where he can achieve SRs of 150% to 225% by scoring many sixes & boundaries.

    (2) He is a clean hitter who can score sixes effortlessly to any part of the ground on a regular basis as proved from his high sixes ratio (R6) of around 35% which is highest value for any power hitting middle order batsman in the world.

    (3) A great timer, a powerful hitter and perfect in placement between two fielders in the outfield to score many boundaries even during middle & death overs (he has a high boundary ratio, R4 of 32%).

    (4) His combined sixes & boundary ratio is around 67% which is also the highest value for any power hitting middle order batsman in the world.

    (5) If you look at the batting records in matches where Dasun has scored more than 30 runs batting at no 6 & 7 positions, the RR of the inning during the period he was at the wicket has been at a staggering 10.0 to 12.0 RPO.

    (1)He is tall (6’ 0”) fast medium bowler therefore can generate extra bounce which will be an added advantage.

    (2) Being an effective fast / seam bowler, he contributes immensely to improve the team balance by doing 5 to 7 overs of the 5th bower quota.

    (3) Currently his bowling speed is 125 kph but with the help of the bowling coach he will be able to increase this to 128 – 130 kph range which will convert him to a Super Batting All rounder probably the Best in the World.

    (4) In his first ODI match played in June 2016 (with Ireland in Dublin) he captured 5 wkts (5/43) and scored 42 runs in 19 balls with 5 fours (R4 of 48%) & 3 sixes (R6 of 43%) and his SR was 221%.

    (5) In spite of the super all round performance in his first ODI match, our selectors did not give him any continuity for some unknown reasons and after 3 yrs he came up with another all round performance with BD few days back.

    (6) Another surprize thing to note is out of the 191 bowlers who represented SL since 1971, Dasun Shanaka has the lowest (or the best) average bowling SR of 25.2 balls / wkt as recorded in Cricinfo Statguru. But during the last 3 yrs although he has played only in 20 ODI matches and he was given a chance to bowl only 42 overs in 11 matches.

    (7) I trust that the new selectors and Dimuth will play Dasun Shanaka in every ODI match and assign no 6 position to him. He should play after Mathews. Since we have two more power hitting all rounders (Hasaranga and Udana) if we lose Mathews wicket, the 7th batsmen either Dhanajaya or Thirimanna can bat at no 7. And if Dasun’s wkt is lost next power hitter can be promoted to bat at no 7.
