  1. This is good news as far as
This is good news as far as SL cricket is concerned. I feel for Mathews as a cricketer who has done lot of good things for Sri Lanka. But, I think that the time has come for him to quit the game altogether as he has an injury which can reoccur anytime. I think it bothers him while playing and prevents him from focusing 100% in the middle. Let the time tell us whether Chandimal’s appointment as the ODI captain is the way to go for WC 2019.

Actually this is something which should have done earlier. As far as I remember, when Hathurusinghe took over as the head coach, in the first series against Bangladesh, Chandimal did a decent job and all the players supported Chandimal very well. Although I don’t see any special captaincy skills in Chandimal, I clearly see that he can get the full support of the players which is what Mathews lacks greatly. Good luck to Chandimal and the team and hope that he will do a better job as the captain of ODI team as well, just as he is doing it with the test team.
