    NLTC Perera: 12 – 2 – 316 – 35.11 – 123 – 2

    Between Jan 2017 – 31 Dec 2017 most productive:

    WU Tharanga: 25 – 4 – 1011 – 48.14 – 92 – 2 x 100 – 6 x 50

    N Dickwella: 12 – 1 – 826 – 33.04 – 96 – 2 x 100 – 4 x 50

Naturally even the most productive players in Top order have to compromise their well maintained individual form, record and aggressiveness, risking their own wickets at times as the situations demands & on assigned role of play to compensate for constant failures slotted to partner them.

This was quite evident in the 2 different roles forced on Opener Tharanga in the Asia cup 2 vital matches: 1st match Vs BD – going at full Throttle -170 SR- starting with a massive 1st ball six followed by 4 x 4s to put up 30 runs on the board single handedly in 3 overs at 10 Runs per Over RR risking his Wkt.

2nd Odi Vs Afg he was forced to do the damage control role & revival but unfortunately the only guy who supported him DdeS got run out in the middle of that process that yielded a healthy 55 runs 2nd wkt stand both contributing equally well. When KJP also got out quite unnecessarily, Upul had to maintain the scoreboard clicking alone again, with slow starter new batter Mathews at the other end and he perished misjudging a slower ball while trying to push the score alone again.!

REPEATING TWO MISTAKES TWICE (Including Constantly failed Kusal Mendis in playing XI & sending him to Open) TWICE in such IMPORTANT MATCHES is unbearable for any side, especially for a side trying hard to raise it’s head.!

So Whom to be blamed for this debacle?

  2. Ha ha.. “Another fan
Ha ha.. “Another fan speculated tongue-in-cheek that the poor performance was all part of a strategy to dupe other teams into thinking Sri Lanka were weak before next year’s World Cup”.. good one.

  3. Defensive/useless captaincy
Defensive/useless captaincy is the main reason for flop, Time to move on with Suranga or Chandimal

Lot of aspects to adjust…… Specially Poor fielding & Playing XI… later Shot selection, rotating strike, running between wkts…..etc

When considering rotating strike & running between wkts, we are weaker than HONG KONG team
