Too defensive at the top with two test players might cost this world cup

Too defensive at the top with two test players might cost this world cup , when rest of the world openers fire from both ends,  we  found a test opener to compliment with someone who is ODI record is terrible with <70 %  strike rate .

They will never able to chase 300 + runs with Dimuth Karunarathne  and Lahiru Thrimanne both playing at the same time ,  Only room for one of them in the eleven .  Pathetic selection policy, when rest of the world is innovate we go back and play cricket like in early 90” s

  1. Yes agreed but, we did try the aggressive opener option with Dikka, KJP, Kusal Mendis and it didn’t really work. We have got to the stage where are unable to bat 50 overs and hence we have done for the test opener. I see why we did it but it’s a plan, that even if successful will not win us the WC because, as you say, the targets will be 300+ with our bowling attack.

Case in point being today’s warm up against Aus – we got a start but it was so slow, we were never going to post anything meaningful, and we didn’t. We are out of options I am afraid and anything is a reasonable plan but the objective is to just bat 50 overs, winning anything goes out the window.
