I’m sick of people asking for players like upul, dhammika, nuwan and all others who are 35+ to be in the ODI squad, they wont even last till the next world cup. Why dont people understand that when the selectors says they should give chances to players they should give chances to young players not old ones. I dont mind Kusal mendis being given so many chances cause he is a young batsman who is suited for the modern game.
It’s now we look past lakmal and pradeep in our ODI squad. If we keep them only for test matches they will be able to play for longer like Anderson and Broad for England. Selectors should bring in bowlers like Asitha, Kumara, Shehan, Binura and even the young left arm pacier Kalana Perera and make a good young fast bowling squad and Spinners squad with and few good spinners cause the next WC is in India and not half baked players who are neither bowlers nor batsman. In India the pitches will either be flat or spinner friendly.
Going forward I would like to see SL team go with 4 proper bowlers and 1 bowling allrounder and 1 batting allrounder.(They should be able to do their main role first). Also with the talk of the 1 ball for the whole 50 overs coming back to talks fast bowlers with a slightly slingy action like Rajitha and Chameera will be very handy if they get their accuracy up.
All in all what I would like to say to all other cricket lovers in this tiny island to think ahead, look forward. Remember the past and learn from it but don’t let the past hold you from moving forward.
From the current 22 member squad for the Bangladesh tour we basically have 2 XI member teams

I would go with Team 1 as my starting XI. It has a perfect balance with Shehan being the batting allrounder and Madushanka being the bowling allrounder. Also moving forwards I don’t see Thisara playing in the 2023 WC being he’ll be 34 by then but most importantly he’ll have to play as the bowling allrounder in the team which I doubt he has the skill to take over that role. But he’ll be important for our t20 for the upcoming world cup and the world cup qualifiers (I know it kills me to say that as well)
It’s a new beginning, let’s support our boys. Use social media to motivate someone not demotivate them. Trust me in the future Avishka will have a rough patch as well, all these love posts we see for him will turn into meme posts. I don’t want that to happen cause that’ll only hurt their mentality even more. USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO SUPPORT NOT DEMOTIVATE, BE SMART AND BE PATIENT. GOOD DAYS ARE NOT FAR AWAY.
