Sri Lanka tour of England – ODI & T20I Squad

22-man squad- Dimuth Karunaratne (ODI captain), Dasun Shanaka (T20I captain), Niroshan Dickwella, Thisara Perera, Kamil Mishara, Angelo Mathews, Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Ashen Bandara, Oshada Fernando, Dhananjaya Lakshan, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ramesh Mendis, Nuwan Pradeep, Ishan Jayaratne Dilshan Madushanka, Dushmantha Chameera, Akila Dananajaya, Kusal Perea and Avishka Fernando (If they pass the fitness test)

Dhananjaya Lakshan is the next Wanindu Hasaranga as a seam-bowling all-rounder and has to be developed early with international experience before the world cup t20 and ODI. The fast-bowling in the west-indies was really concerning as they lacked the penetrative aspect of fast-bowlers and leaked many runs in the last 5-10 overs, improving they could not handle pressure. Dhananjaya Lakshan has shown he can swing the bowl a lot and bowl under pressure, bat as a power hitter at the end of an innings.

Ishan Jayaratne is the leading wicket-taker in the t20 domestic tournament and in-country like Sri Lanka, where spinners dominate it shows his skills and character. He also proved he could handle a bat to contribute with some runs and with wickets.

Kamil Mishara is another Pathum Nissanka in the making. He scored high in school cricket and has already has become used to domestic cricket and could be developed early if he is drafted into the squad to be moulded for the future like Dilshan Madushanka.

  1. Admin, Is this the official squad ? If yes, please verify with an official news item. In future please request these “Island Selectors” to mention “My Selection” in all their forecasts. One of such selectors recently has picked a team for the World Cup to be held in 2023. Isn’t it absurd? I wish that credibility in every post is maintained in this forum.

  2. Guys we need to make a new plan for white ball cricket if we want compete! Have been saying this for a long time – the current plan with Dimuth (lets face it he is not a white ball batter) Chandi and Anji is never going to work. Anyone who watched the India V Eng series would know that even 300+ is no longer safe. You just need to look at the players in these two teams – Sharma, Pandya, Pant, Butler, Bairstow and Roy which we are matching with Dimuth, Anji and Chandimal – we have taken a knife to a gun fight! Lets atleast select a team that if everything goes to plan has a reasonable chance of competing. It is no surprise why we are where we are in white ball cricket which is where we will be if we keep selecting the 1980’s style white ball batters to anchor our batting.
