  1. No off spinner in our team ? I do not think that will happen. So Dhananjaya has to play. Jeewan is a leg spinner but does not have much of bowling experience in recent ODI matches. This is something Dimuth has to do as a captain. Even in yesterdays match he was not given a single over. In the coming two practice matches Jeewan should be given at least 10 to 15 overs to gain some match practice. Jeewan is a must player in the WC matches.

For the two warm up matches we need to give some match practice to the players who have very little or no experience on ODI matches played during the last 3/4 years. They are Dimuth, Thirimanna, Avishka, Jeewan, Udana, Mathews, Pradeep (and even Milinda and Vandersay). It’s no point in playing the best or probable WC team in a warm up / practice match.

  2. For Sri Lanka, the main point is to get into a winning rhythm so they can`t lose the two warm-up games against South Africa and Australia. Also Having an off-spinner is not compulsory it is just an option that they have. Also since DDS is not scoring much with the bat so his place is not guaranteed also Jeevan Mendis did not bowl against Scotland because of the rained 2nd innings as Dimuth Karunaratne is a smart enough captain to know it is hard for a wrist-spinner like Jeevan Mendis to control that is why he opted to stay with the fast bowlers and the finger-spinning all-rounder Dhananjaya De Sliva. Jeevan Mendis Batting was much impressive than Dhananjaya De Sliva in the Scotland match.

  3. that is a very good XI you have chosen .I always thought that only 1 of either thisara and udana should play and a genuine fast bowler should play instead .But I think mathews should bat at 5 and KJP at 6 .However though I like this team , I dont think it is properly balanced on the bowling front (wouldnt have been the case if both mathews and dimuth couldve chipped in with a few overs). You can expect lakmal, malinga and pradeep to bowl their 10 overs . But can you expect the same from jeevan and udana ? I dont think so .So I think the team desparately needs a 6th bowling option .Therefore I think its a must that DDS plays in the XI .but he needs to bat in the top4 for sure if he does. But it will be a loss of genuine quality batsman to include DDS in the XI .

  4. Having a 6th part-time bowler going for 6-7 an over would be worse than giving Jeevan Mendis and Udana bowling there 10 overs. May I remind you that both players are T20 specialist, therefore, they can handle the pressure situation they get in. Also they are both bowling-Allrounders while DDS is batting all-rounder.

Also, DDS batting in the Top 4 is never going to happen as DDS role is No.7 that is the only position they have given him in the ODIs for the past 2 years mostly.
    Also the Top 6 Position
    1.Dimuth Karunaratne (Captain)

    2.Avishka Fernando

    3.Kusal Mendis

    4.Lahiru Thirimanne(Vice-Captain)

    5. Angelo Mathews

    6.Kusal Perera (Wk)

Top 6 Are fixed and they are not going to change that has Sri Lanka want to get a winning rhythm and consistent selection. The only players that will be altered with would be no.7 to no.11 this is because of the team composition depending on the pitch or player condition will change.

If Sri Lanka wants to make 300+ these top 6 must play and Sri Lanka for that reason is why they selected t20 specialist like Isuru Udana and Jeevan Mendis to be able to handle situations as most games in the ICC World Cup tournament are going to be 300+ and it will be these players that will win us the matches.

  5. Reason to have 3 genuine fast bowlers and 2 bowling all-rounders-

Dimuth Karunaratne only used 5 bowlers against Scotland

Also, the captain himself can bowl while DDS can play replacing Jeevan Mendis if the opposition has a lot of left-handed batsmen.

The bowling stage would go something like this-

Suranga Lakmal and Lasith Malinga Seam and swing the ball in the first 10 overs

Isura Udana and Nuwan Pradeep use the reminding seam and swing in the surface will also be using their variation form 11-20th over

Suranga Lakmal and Jeevan Mendis pick up a few wickets or dry up the runs to build up pressure between the 21-30th over.

Jeevan Mendis using his leg break, Googly, flipper and top-spin, and Nuwan Pradeep using his straight, wide and slow yorkers and bouncers pick up a few wickets or dry up the runs to build up pressure between the 31th-40th over.

Isura Udana and Lasith Malinga bowl in the death overs as they are the best in the whole squad. between the 41th-50 over.

  6. lol kapstar sorry to burst your bubble bro .But youre too much into theory .Things will never work out like that in reality .In reality when the captain is under pressure he will have to trust his judgement with bowling changes and would never be able to plan things out like that .(ok udana and whoever 20-30 overs lmfao ) .In reality he will have to take bowlers off the firing line if theyre having a bad day ( which most of our bowlers generally do ) and thats when the 6th bowling option will be of use .Plus DDS adds variety in the form of off spin and he has bowled pretty well of late .Also mark my words bro , DDS WILL DEFINITELY play instead of either thirimanne or avishka in that first world cup match against NZ .However though Id want him to bat at 3 or 4 , he’ll definitely bat at 6 or 7 .Lets bet on it 😉 .So yes, he’ll definitely play as a 6th bowling option 🙂

  7. Silly Point, Keep Dreaming
DDS may play but only at No.6 or No.7
Lahiru Thirimanne and Avishka Fernando are guaranteed to Play if they perform reasonably well in the warm-up games against Australia and South Africa.

  8. Kapstar, I too agree that Jeewan is a better option than Dhananjaya both in batting and bowling but the reasoning given by you for not bowling Jeewan in the last match due to rain was not correct. Rain came down at the end of 27 overs and after that only 6 overs were bowled in the match. So it was very difficult to find any reason why Jeewan was not given a single over in the match. Anyway one thing is clear to me. Dhananjaya is in the good books of both Asantha and Dimuth. So at any cost they will not drop Dhananjaya from the team. If you look at the batting order of Scotland the first 4 batsmen were all right handers and the first left hander came in to bat at the end of 22 nd over (at 3/95). So it was so unfortunate that Jeewan didn’t get a single over.
