Seeing SL perform like this is really disappointing and sad. No one is putting a fight when one falls everyone else follows. I don’t wanna sound negative but there is no positive in SL perform. Here is my thoughts on some topics.
Dimuth: should this guy even be captain. He had drunk driving incident and SL made him captain wait to go. People might look at scorecard and say he did good. But the truth is he had couple of chances. Even the ball hit the wicket but bails didn’t fall. His batting style is so negative cuz he basically saying I will hang around and u guys attack, which is really putting pressure on the other guy and it’s also difficult do since the opposition has great bowlers. Even today match I haven’t seen kusal go that hard in recent months. I think dimuth approach had a influence and then he got out. Also u can see dimuth trying really hard find single and boundaries but he is unable to do so.
I don’t wanna waste time talking about this too much cuz it’s no use.
The more I see SL without dickwella the more I am convinced dickwella is the future of SL cricket. This guy only failed in SA tour but selectors dropped him for world cup. He is the highest ranked SL ODI batsman. There are players like kusal mendis that never really performed and not even getting dropped for a game.
What I see from SL players in this team is that they semmed be to negative, depressed and serious people. I say this after seeing leaking kusal and lakmal talks, Angelo tweets, player interviews (malinga, kusal mendis and so on), body language in the field. None of the players seemed to be enjoying playing cricket they just wanna play some shots and get out. I don’t see anyone fighting to put a good score on the board. Dimuth was just ride the wave not putting a fight. Angelo thisara malinga they semmed to be putting fake but they semmed depressed and not happy inside.maybe what this team need is depression pills to deal with their current mental state. The body language of players while batting and bowling is really negative no one semmed to be enjoy playing cricket. U got ask what’s point of all this if players aren’t enjoying and fans are not enjoy.
The only person that brought little bit of happiness to this team was dickwella and he is not even in the team. Guy is friendly with everyone and does his stupid jokes. But one thing sure he bring energy and life to the team with his funny and stupid jokes fighting spirit.
I don’t care what happens in this world cup. I don’t think we have chance. However it’s really important what happens after this. SL should look to make dickwella the captain in all formats. I say this because out of the all the players he is the only one that has been able to perform consistently, he has leadership skills, Friendly with everyone, not too serious individual. If u look over his stupid jokes you will see guy is the smartest player in SL team. When he is batting he takes control of the game he is the only guy that I seen constantly communicating with the other batsman.
Unlike others he shows passion, character, not faker he is not shamed to be himself in the middle. I write this about dickwella cuz I Know SL people and selectors hates this guy. They just waits for him to fail to make fun of him and drop him. I think we should be give more importance to this guy because I think he is the future as a player and a captain.
I hope Dickwella does not become the next Tharanga on Island Cricket – world beaters whenever they are not selected!
This is loose talk by Pramudith rooting for Dickwella. Either a friend or a blind fan like some for Tharanga.Or other reason. Talk facts correctly,it was not only in SA, Dickwella failed miserably before & after.Do you remember he was NOT chosen for the Asia cup tour at all. He did n’t score well in any recent domestic competition at all & not in NZ or Aus. In fact for weird reason,DeMel made him the VC saying that would prompt him up but to no avail. Even in India A against a second or third string team just managed one single big score.Is that the leading from the front? Every WC team has a blistering consistent WK,DeCock,Mushfiqer,Bairstow,Dhoni Latham etc.People say he has leadership qualities, my foot, he is the most anxious unsettled batter you could ever see at the wicket. He is constantly praying & each stroke is followed by many crosses & upward looks!! What a symbol of a player lacking self confidence, self doubt & restlessness.
Jeez. I am not posting anything on this site again. Dikka definitely not best player or perfect character. But after seeing what all current player have to offer in terms of consistency, dikka is the most consistent. I was talking about after this world cup. As most of u know this team is oldest team in world cup. He failed in provincial tournament yes. But he average like 34 in past 2 years in odi. I just don’t think it was rational decision drop him. I don’t think current world cup team includes the best players in SL. But I really hope everyone included in this team performs and hopefully win us some games. I want players to be energetic, motivated do better, be Happy, enjoy these moments cuz not everyone get to represent their country at the world cup, play with passion, dedication do better. But most of the time I see depressed, sad, moody, drama queens, seem like they just their, seem they have no plans they just go about things. Like they don’t want to win. U must plan execute plans to win games. U not gonna win games if u don’t put the effort. With most of our players skill not problem. Mentality very important in cricket. I just don’t see that side of the players. There are 8 more matches to go, I really hope they can turn things around put a fight. Show case their talent and skills. As viewer, it’s sad seeing players not enjoying the game and not having fun cuz that makes it hard for me enjoy.

@Pramudith, don’t delete your comment or try to defend your read. It’s your thoughts which you are entitled to make, just like others are entitled to agree or disagree – it is after all a forum. I think its important to have folks like you who make posts and keep this forum going as opposed to those (like me) who don’t. What would we debate without opinions so keep them coming and don’t get bothered if others have opposing views.
Having said that, we spend a lot time focusing on a single player. As we speak there are other threads that Kusal Mendis is to blame for SL cricket’s failure and Upul Tharanga should be the President of Sri Lanka. What we have here is treating the symptoms! SLC is in total turmoil which is the number of one issue and unless we fix that, there will be many other knock on issues. How many captains, coaches and selectors have we had since the last WC? While it’s interesting to debate all sorts of other things including Dikka, Kusal and Tharanga, the real issue here is the polititians need to get out of SLC and hand over the game to the folks who know to run it or all we will keep debating for the next few years is if Dikka should captain or Tharanga should open the bowling etc. All very interesting but lets not lose focus on the real issue.
I think who ever wrote this posses a short memory, how can you forget our greatest test match against SA. Rather than talents and skills, players attitudes under Dimuth’s captaincy. Did you see anybody depressed? You were talking about Dikka and Tharanga with all outdated tools of measurements. Best thing to do as a Sri Lankan is to pray for the selected players and worship your idol Dikka in your secret prayer room.
