Lanka Premier League: A Look Back

Lanka Premier League 2022

About a month ago, the Jaffna Kings won their third consecutive Lanka Premier League! A huge congratulation to them! The difference between last season and the previous 2 seasons is the runners-up as this season Colombo Stars finished as runner-up and not Galle Gladiators. With that said, let’s take a quick look back on the season.

Most Improved Team

The most improved team was definitely the Kandy Falcons as they reached the knockouts for the first time in LPL history. The team led by Wanindu Hasaranga played some fearless and entertaining cricket but couldn’t deliver in the final stages. (2023)

Most Disappointing Team

Dambulla Aura was the most disappointing team of the season as they finished last despite having many talented and big names players such as Dasun Shanaka, Bhanuka Rajapakse, and Sikandar Raza. The team often had batting collapses and bad bowling which lead them to have the worst season in the history of the Dambulla team. (2023)

Most Impressive Player

The most impressive player of the season definitely is young Vijayakanth Viyaskanth from the Jaffna Kings. He bowled extremely well throughout the tournament and finished with 13 wickets. Other than that, his impressive performance caught the eyes of many commentators and fans and it lead to him getting a contract to play for the Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League. (2023)

highest wicket-taker And runscorer

The highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 18 wickets is the tall and unforgettable Carlos Brathwaite! While the highest runscorer is the talented Avishka Fernando with 339 runs. (2023)

So, there you have it! A quick look back at LPL season 3. It was a tournament filled with action-packed and nail-biting cricket where each team played their best. However, in the edn there can only be one winner and that was Jaffna Kings for the third time. Congratulation to them once again and with that, the wait for LPL season 4 begins!
