Dhammika Prasad made his ODI debut in the year 2006 against Bangladesh and this pacer with an aggressive action was able to grab 2 wickets for 29 runs in a match that Sri Lanka won by 78 runs. A back injured made him wait 2 more years before he could play red ball cricket. Test cap 110 made hisdebut on 8 August 2008 against India where this fierce fast bowler was able to grab 82 for 3 and 60 for 2 in the two innings; a match bag of 5 for 142 on debut including the wickets of Shewag, Dravid, Tendulkar and Gambir was pretty impressive; he was the perfect opening partner for Vaas.
Years went by and he was in and out of the team; mainly due to injuries. His hard work saw him being selected for the 2015 World Cup but once again an injury came between him and cricket and ended his World Cup dream, but he made a stellar comeback in the 2015 Pakistan Test series, the dedicated pacer took 7 wickets in the 2nd match that saw the lankan’s winning the match by 7 wickets and he was named man of the match.
The argument he had with Ishant Sharma during the 2015 Indian test series was the talk among the cricketing community for sometime; in fact this incident saw him receiving a warning from ICC too
Angry bird Dhammika was also instrumental in Sri Lanka winning their first test series in England soil.
Kariyawasam Tirana Gamage Dhammika Prasad played his final test match in 2015 October against West Indies and had match figures of 72 for 5, but that was the end of his career, yes that’s what he had to hear, that’s what many people said after his shoulder got injured. The man had to undergo 3 surgeries and this gutsy cricketer has shown everyone that he is a fighter. After years of hard work and sacrifices he is back playing domestic cricket captaining his club SSC. Dhamma the man with a heavy heart never gave up on his dreams and still he wants to play for his country.
