Sri Lanka’s third game against Australia at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 didn’t change their fortunes as Australia won and handed Sri Lanka their third consecutive defeat of their campaign! As a result, congratulations to Australia and hard luck to Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, despite the defeat Sri Lanka still had some pros from this match they can take forward along with some cons. That said, shall we take a look at those pros and cons? We shall!
Pros with the bat:
- Good opening partnership
- both openers scoring 50+
Cons with the bat:
- Batting collapse
Pros with the ball and the field:
- took early wickets
Cons with the ball and the field:
- Gave away too many runs within the powerplay
- allowed easy singles in the middle overs (didn’t build pressure)
Overall, the number of cons has gone down from Sri Lanka’s previous games and so have the pros hence proving that Sri Lanka hasn’t been able to stay consistent resulting in defeats. As a result, the Sri Lankans must look for consistency as they have been improving their cons but aren’t taking their pros forward.
