In 1996 Manoj Prabhakar, a veteran fast bower of 129 one-day matches till then, was forced to change his bowling style to contain Sanath Jayasuriya who was in murdering mood. His first 2 overs went for 33 and in the next 2 overs he decided to bowl spin which ended with another 14 runs being added and guess what? he never played International Cricket for India after that beating. A career of 11 years, 130 ODI’s and 157 wickets came to an end just like that.
A similar incident happened yesterday in the 44th Mustangs trophy between Royal college Vs St. Thoma’s college when one of the best fast bowlers in the School circuit: Kalana Perera was forced to bowl spin due to getting hammered by the Royal number 9. Lahiru Madushanka took the man of the match in the 144th Battle of the blues to the cleaners. Two back to back sixes by Lahiru in the 48th over forced Kalana to bowl spin but the next ball too traveled the distance. Madushanka finished with 46 off 17 with 6 sixes and Royal won the encounter by 1 wicket.
