What should Sri Lanka do next??

We all were gutted that Sri Lanka couldn’t win the world cup where Mahela played an amazing innings and our defence got off to the perfect possible start.
However, apart from Malinga, no one else looked like getting a breakthrough, this shows that our bowling still lacks a wicket taker which why i still say like in my previous blog dilhara should have played he can go for runs but can also take wickets.

Sri Lanka must also look into that middle order, Aravinda should really tell Thilina Kandamby to lose a few kilos and improve his fielding because he is ideal for the middle order. he can nudge the ball as well as use his power to hit sixes. we also need a batsmen in the middle order who will take the initiatives in the middle overs this is where Dinesh Chandimal can be utilised, he is young, hungry and aggressive and is particularly good at hitting the spinners for four and sixes. If you recall the Zimbabwe  Tri series he took Ashwin to the cleaners and made them look like ordinary bowlers. Jeevan Mendis is also another strong contender, like Kandamby, Mendis reminds me of Arjuna cool collected player who nudges the ball here and there and keeps the scoreboard ticking he also a handy leg spinner which can be vital component in any bowling attack. These players i believe will help the middle order and aid the over burdened Angelo Mathews.

I believe Bhanuka Rajapakse can be devastating in the top order he shows a cool temperament and should be given a short stint as opener alongside Dilly, Tharanga seemed to crumble under pressure. I’m still saying Upul should open but then again there is no harm in trying.

Sri Lanka must also improve their fast bowling department, Kulasekara is good but doesn’t have the sting. Nuwan Pradeep is a real rough in the diamonds for me. He can bowl upto speeds of 150 km/h and is known to be aggressive however the Sri Lankan bowling coach must help him create a variety of deliveries to his arsenal. Like Malinga he needs to develop a fast good yorker because both their actions are similar, a good slower ball, a slow ball yorker, slow bouncer etc. The idea of two pacemen such as this will send shivers down the opponents spine. Sri Lanka also need a good legspinner to aid Herath and Randiv, this is where Malinga Bandara’s experience comes into play as he had played county cricket and has developed into a bowling allrounder.

Sri Lanka’s fielding has to also improve vastly we were pathetic on the field it has to be said and we did not live up to our reputation whereas India saved 20-30 runs on the field. Improvements in these fields can help Sri Lanka in the future anyway we are proud of what our lions did and believe me when i say this. This team helped unite a nation and that in a sense is better than winning a world cup.

I wish all the members of the Sri Lankan cricket team all the very best!
