The significance of the man’s deed was evident when Kumar Sangakkara embraced Meher warmly, as if to say, "Thank you for saving my life".
It lasted long enough for one to know that Sanga owed this man his life.
Meher Mohammed Khalil, the bus driver of the ill fated coach, was instrumental in driving the players out of harms way when the Sri Lankan cricket team came under attack. Six police officers and a driver were killed, and seven members of the Sri Lankan team were wounded when more than a dozen heavily-armed gunmen ambushed the team convoy en route to a Test match against Pakistan.
