Upul Tharanga lower down the order?

We all know what a capable batsman he is. We know there is a lot of talent there. But we also know he is a little too loose outside the off-stump to be an opening batsman.

You could have gotten away with it for the last 10 years, on low flat wickets in Sri Lanka. Things have changed a lot. Wickets in Sri Lanka now have that pace and bounce to ask questions of any technique.

Tharanga notched up another duck in the 5th ODI vs Pakistan today. Before we discard him – the usual Sri Lankan policy – we should perhaps give him a run in the middle order, where we need some help.
