The victories in the win

Estatic about yesterdays win against the Indians. For me, the most pleasing was the way the game was won.

We all know the fluctations in Sri Lankas performance, 1 day we can score 195 runs against Windies and the next match we can be skittled out for under 100 runs. (Aussie match).

But what is a very clear trend for our good performances, is that usually one individual stands out. Be it Murali taking a 5-er. Dilshan, Mahela or Sanath (in the good old days) smashing a 100. My point is that we rely to much on individual brilliance, and very seldom is it a collective effort that results in a win.
Yesterdays match was different, Sanga, Dilshan, Mathews, Randiv, Malinga and Kapu all contributed to this win. This was a team effort! Something the Aussies are well renowned for.

The other positive from yesterday, was the manner we won. We often tend to struggle when chasing in close matches. I believe partly because we haven’t had big hitters and our lower order batting is not good enough.
We are very clever when it comes to choking the opposition when bowling, using our spinners. But we have several incidents (e.g. India Tour last December), where we just fall short of the target. In Mathews, we seem to have a finisher, I would love to say the same thing about Kapu, but he needs to be more consistent.

Finally, the most pleasing fact, the match was won by our young players. Its a about time that Mathews and Kapu plays match winning innings.

I hope we can keep up these positive trends, remember the 50 over World Cup is under 1 year away!
