A look at bowlers for the future.
Nuwan Pradeep: Lasith Malinga is fast, quick and deadly dangerous but has retired from Test cricket because of injury concerns. His future in the shorter formats is also unlikely to be a prolonged one. Nuwan Pradeep is an obvious choise to replace him. He is fast and slingy, like Malinga. Even though, 24-year-old nuwan hasn’t played a single international match for Sri Lanka yet, his debut is around the corner. He was in the Test squad for the tour of England this year, but was unfortunately injured and had to return home. But, as Mahela Jayaweredene said, he is a future prospect.
Suranga Lakmal : 24-year-old Lakmal has already started to showcase his talent in international cricket. And its time to rate him as a front-line bowler and pick him over Nuwan Kulasekera, a bowler only suitable for Asian conditions. Lakmal showed his abilities in the recently concluded one day series against England, where he removed in-form batsman Jonathan trott with two unplayable in swinging yorkers; It shows that he is a thinking bowler, with control.
Sachihtra Senanayake: The selectors favour some player and ignore some others – Senanayake surely belongs to the latter. As an off break bowler, his 282 wickets in 56 first class matches shows that he is a bowler with lot of potential. He is a player from the Sinhalese Sports Club, who is also a useful batsman lower down the order.
Next, I will try to find a suitable final XI for the World Cup in 2015.
