T20 not a platform to test youngsters

Looking at the Sri Lankan squad for the upcoming World T20 cup, the inclusion of Suraj Randiv and Dinesh Chandimal and the inclusion of Gihan Rupasinghe for the two T20s played in Sri Lanka last year, makes me feel that the selectors are choosing T20 cricket as a platform to try out potential Test players.

Taking nothing away from these players, who look good to represent Sri Lanka for a very long time, i feel that they are not the ideal candidates for T20 cricket.

I am further convinced by this because the selectors ignored Jeewantha Kulatunga for the squad, when he justified a place in the side by winning the Man of the Tournament award in the Inter-Provincial T20 Tournament. He also scored a T20 hundred, which shows the kind of form he is in. If performances in domestic tournaments does not get you in the squad, I have to question the wisdom of organizing a domestic tournament at all.

After all this is a World Cup why not select the best men for the job to increase our chances of actually winning it??
