Sri Lanka vs India 2nd Test – Preview

Most Likely XI against India-
1.   Sadeera Samarawickrama (Right-hand Batsman)
2.   Dimuth Karunaratne(Left-hand Batsman)
3.   Lahiru Thirimanne (Left-hand Batsman)(Retains his place due to his 50 in the First Test)
4.   Angelo Mathews (Right-hand Batsman)
5.   Dinesh Chandimal (Right-hand Batsman)(Captain)
6.   Roshen Sliva (Right-hand Batsman)
7.   Niroshan Dickwella (Left-hand Batsman)(Wicket-keeper)
8.   Dasun Shanaka(Bowling All-Rounder)(Right-hand Batsman)(Right-Arm Medium)
9.   Dilruwan Perera(Bowling All-Rounder)(Right-hand Batsman)(Slow Right-arm Off-Spin)
10. Rangana Herath (Slow left-arm orthodox)/Lahiru Gamage (Right-Arm Medium-Fast)
11. Suranga Lakmal(Right-Arm Medium-Fast)

Rumored Pitch Condition-Seaming Wicket

My Changes to the Squad will be –
In- Vimukthi Perera, Lahiru Kumara

  • Both have performed well in the Series against West Indies A recently and since India is designing pitches to prepare them self for the South Africa tour all the pitches are expected to be seaming wickets. So it Better to have 2 extra fast bowling options.
  • Sri Lanka should bring in Vimukthi Perera into the Squad as Lakmal and Gamage who appeared to have minor injuries also Gamage and Vishwa seem ineffective in seaming conditions to support Lakmal.

My XI-
1.   Sadeera Samarawickrama (Right-hand Batsman)
2.   Dimuth Karunaratne(Left-hand Batsman)
3.   Dhananjaya de Silva (All-Rounder)(Right-hand Batsman)(Slow Right-arm Off-Spin)
4.   Angelo Mathews (Right-hand Batsman)
5.   Dinesh Chandimal (Right-hand Batsman)(Captain)
6.   Roshen Sliva (Right-hand Batsman)
7.   Niroshan Dickwella (Left-hand Batsman)(Wicket-keeper)
8.   Dasun Shanaka(Bowling All-Rounder)(Right-hand Batsman)(Right-Arm Medium)
9.   Dilruwan Perera(Bowling All-Rounder)(Right-hand Batsman)(Slow Right-arm Off-Spin)
10. Vimukthi Perera(Left-Arm Fast-Medium)
11. Suranga Lakmal(Right-Arm Medium-Fast)

My Choice-

  • Dhananjaya de Silva should replace Lahiru Thirimanne as his 50 wasn`t fluent and was more luck involved also his second innings attitude was not right for a no.3 batsman which Dhananjaya de Silva can bring which is positive intent and temperament when required.
  • Dasun Shanaka should be the 2nd Frontline bowler as he performed better with the ball than Lahiru Gamage and even on any track it`s risky to play Lakshan Sankan and Vishwa Fernando who are inconsistent with there line and lengths.
  • Roshen Sliva is the Vital Plug in the Sri Lanka XI who is missing and the team management is failing to realize it. There Stupid theory of 6 batsmen and 5 bowlers won`t work on the No.1 team as they didn`t even require the 2 spinners this match and if they had given that position to Roshen Sliva it could have made the difference in increasing the chance to win.
  • Roshen Sliva has played a few seasons for an England domestic team and has done well in the past and he would have been more discipline and could have scored a hundred since he has bated in similar condition.
  • I would even consider resting Rangana Herath who will be ineffective on a green surface.

Dasun Shanka was impressive with his bowling but is yet to prove his batting capability
Sri Lanka must revert back to the 7 batsmen and 4 pure-bowlers against a high-quality Indian attack in seaming condition so that they can match india with the bat.
