Sponsors breathing down SLC’s neck over Ten Sports’ postponement of Zimbabwe tour

If you recall my post from last evening, I mentioned that Zimbabwe’s tour of Sri Lanka was postponed due to Ten Sports and not as a result of the IPL. There was talk that Sri Lanka had postponed yet another tour to allow it’s players to rest for the Indian Premier League.

Zimbabwe were scheduled to play five ODIs in Colombo, beginning on March 13.

In his column for the Sunday Times, S.R. Pathiravithana writes about a  ‘major showdown’ between SLC and it’s new sponsors Dialog Telecom over the postponement of this tour.

Dialog’s 10 Million Rupee bailout/sponsorship package included the 5 ODI Indian tour, Two test tour to Pakistan,  and the postponed Zimbabwe tour.

Sri Lanka Cricket officials claim that the Zimbabwe tour was added as a ‘bonus’ to the sponsorship package. But the sponsors have been promised 24 days of Cricket as a part pf the package.

According to reports, the sponsor is clearly not happy with the arrangement of not getting the Zimbabwe part of the agreement. As a result, Dialog’s exposure to the number of playing days is going to fall short of the promised 24 days of cricket.
