It is official. Kumar Sangakkara has been named as skipper for Sri Lanka’s T20 squad for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament.
Muttiah Muralitharan has been named as Sri Lanka’s vice captain in a provisional squad announced by the national selection committee.
The World T20 tourney kicks off on the 5th of June.
Sri Lanka’s first match of the series will be against the Aussies on the 8th.
Cricinfo reports that the Sri Lankan selectors are expected to make a long term decision on the captaincy after the ongoing inter-provincial tournament.
Which I doubt is accurate. Unless Kumar was to get injured – There is no reason for the current crop of selectors to change their decision on the captaincy based on anything that would transpire during the inter-provincial tournament.
