Sangakkara and Jayawardene fail to impress in rain curtailed encounter – Day Two – IPL 2009

The start to this year’s Indian Premier League tournament has not been an ideal one. Rain and problems with the flood lights delayed play for several hours.
The encounter between Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab, which was cut down to 12 overs, and eventually decided by the Duckworth and Lewis method, was Delhi all the way.  A demoralized Punjab looked out played and very over priced when their stars failed to put on a decent total.

Sangakkara looked out of sorts
trying to drop the ball into non existent gaps, and attempting to dart off for improbable singles. Five dot balls in nine deliveries pushed Sanga into improvisation mode. He pulled it off with a neat flicked – sweep shot, but attempted the same shot in the very next ball and top edged one to short fine leg.
Mahela ran out Yuvraj Singh after calling him for a suicidal run. Two balls later he decided to charge Vettori, and give long – off some catching practice.
Only two Sri Lankans were on display today.
The Kolkata Knight Riders decided to go with Gayle, Hodge, McCullum(C), and Moises Henriques.
Moises Henriques, A relative unknown Australia player with just ten first class matches under his belt and a high score of 40, was preferred by Buchanan and friends over Ajantha Mendis and Angelo Mathews.
I wonder if some teams are in the IPL to win it or are they just there for a good time. Loose the ‘give everyone a game’ mentality if you want to succeed.
