Kumar Sangakkara sounded dejected at the presentation ceremony.
If I was all talk as he is, I would be dejected too.
His captaincy and his opinions are miles apart. All his talk of being positive and playing positive go out the door when it comes to marshaling his fielders.
When Kohli and Gambhir were looking to consolidate, Sangakkara didn’t look to capitalize. He allowed the batsman to play themselves in with singles and twos, due to negative field placings.
As for his wicket-keeping, his performance in this series would make him the worst specialist keeper in the international scene at the moment.
Having sacrificed the gloves in the Test arena, he makes the cut for Sri Lanka’s worst fielder in the Test line up.
Captaincy isn’t that great is it Sanga?
The best skippers out there all have total control of their team on the field, at all times.
He doesn’t intervene, nor does he talk to the bowlers, or his seniors when the opposition appear to be getting away.
In the past he has also been accused of screaming in an unprofessional manner at his fielders and bowlers.
Captain Cool he certainly is not.
With the 7 wicket loss at the Eden Gardens today, Sri Lanka have lost the ODI series.
Under Sangakkara’s captaincy Sri Lanka has taken part in four ODI series/tournaments (including the current Sri Lanka tour of India).
Sri Lanka has won just one series (against Pakistan) and performed miserably in three others.
|Pakistan in Sri Lanka ODI Series, 2009||Sri Lanka|
|Compaq Cup (India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka), 2009||India|
|Sri Lanka in India ODI Series, 2009/10||India|
We should ask Chandika Hathurusinghe to find Sangakkara a good captaincy coach, and then find another unknown johnny to be his "shadow coach."
What happened to Murali? Sri Lanka’s vice captain?
Has anyone wondered how he "injured" his finger? Did the vice captain bail out on the country on these flat batting decks, faking an injury? Murali has been thoroughly disappointing in the last several years. Any time there is pressure on him he collapses.
On important tours like ones to Australia or India, you can’t count on Murali. His negative outlook on everything rules him out of the series even before a ball is even bowled. So much was expected from this master and he failed us again.
