Rumesh Buddika has started to stamp his authority

It’s always good and heartening for any cricket playing nation to witness healthy competition for a national cap, where young players stamp their authority and push the selectors hard to grab a chance. Just refreshing after winning the Asia cup, Sri Lanka is certainly looking a formidable side, with the mixture of old greats and young rising stars.

And it’s not about the national team only. Its fortunate for Sri Lanka cricket, that suddenly their upcoming young generation is also making big strides toe=wards national team, with consistently bravo performance. 23 year old Rumesh Buddika is certainly amongst them.

An elegant left hander, represents Tamil union in domestic cricket, buddika has always been considered as a future star in local circles. But, during initial years of his cricket, like any other youngster, he too took his time to adjust and fill the gap between school and domestic cricket.

But now, he has been showing his true potential. An admirer of great kumar sangakkara, Buddika has been consistently making big scores in ongoing Super Eight Premier League Tournament . Against panadura, he made cores of 173 and 80 in a match. He continued his form in next match against nondescripts as well, as he struck fine 86, before being unfortunately run out.

The biggest difference about his game now, compare to his earlier one, that now he is well aware about his strength as a batsman. Against panadura, he played aggressively, with a strike rate of well over 80 in both innings, while against nondescripts he played a passion innings, regarding the situation of the match. It shows, that now he is prepare and ready to play according the situation.

And its indeed the good news for Sri Lanka Cricket. As now, after the great success of Lahiru thirimane as a opener in just concluded Asia cup, there will be a need of no. 3 batsman in national team, after the retirement of great kumar sangakkara. And then, buddika will have an golden opportunity to push the selectors to consider him as a next no. 3 batsman for Sri Lanka. Obviously, it’s too early to say that. But there is no doubt, that if he can continue his form, he will be surely replace his idol in the national team!
