A few troublemakers in the SLC Executive Committee thought that they can show the players who is boss. They thought they can make the players fall in line by hurting their IPL income this year by scheduling a tour to Ireland before the England tour. They went out of their way to arrange this tour.
And because of that, none of the IPL teams showed much interest in Sri Lankan players. Their poor availability the issue. All Sri Lankans at the auction, with the exception of Thisara Perera, were ignored by IPL teams this year.
But Kumar Sangakkara cleverly did not make himself available for the auction.
"Two-and-a-half weeks of availability is not attractive to franchises, so the chances of getting a better contract are higher next year, when I will be available for the whole tournament," he told Cricinfo.
And now, almost as if to say ‘This is what I think of your Ireland tour’, while at the same time giving them the finger, Sangakkara has signed with Durham to prepare for the England Test series.
The imbeciles (patriots and nationalists) can’t grumble because it’s not the IPL in India (a country they love to hate) that he will be missing Sri Lanka fixtures against Ireland for — he’s preparing for the England series by playing first-class cricket in England.
Take a bow, Sanga!
Await the drama when Lasith Malinga says he will not be available for the Ireland ODIs because he will be representing Mumbai Indians. That’s exactly the situation the troublemakers want.
