Mumbai Indians shoots its self in the foot leaving Jayasuriya out

When you pay someone $975,000 – almost a million USD – you would expect them to work everyday of their stipulated contract. You wont want anyone having a day off when they are only expected to play for a couple of months every year and you are paying them a staggering fee.

Well leaving out Sanath Jayasuriya when your paying him such a large sum of money just defies logic. But it gets more baffling when you go into a must win match. Mumbai are languishing at the bottom of the table and could not afford to leave out a match winner like Jayasuriya.

They missed his left arm spin too. His four overs could well have helped defend the low total Mumbai scrapped up.

Who was behind the move? Sachin? Pollock? Who?

Mumbai opted to drop Sanath Jayasuriya in favour of Luke Ronchi, but the move backfired spectacularly as the Australian ran himself out in the first over.

It was an unbelievable decision from Ronchi as he dropped the ball straight to David Warner at cover and set off. Warner threw down the stumps and he was a yard short of his ground.  – Setanta Sports
