Sri Lanka have done well to qualify for the quarter-finals but are yet to beat a major nation in getting there. And now its crunch time, with the next game and beyond having serious ramifications.
A win against NZ is important to ensure a home quarter-final, avoding the likes of India and SA in India, which will give Sri Lanka the best chance of a RPS semi-final.
The top oder have all made runs and Samaraweera adds stability but hasnt really had too many opportunities, neither have Mathews and Kapugedera.
It seems Silva has been preferred to Kapugedera and the only question is the make up of the one position between Perera and a spinner. I am not sure if Kulasekera is a certainty but it may be worth considering Perera for Kulasekera.
Having said that, I dont think Perera has done enough to warrant selection ahead of the others in any event.
I would only select Mendis if the pitch is spinning and the opposition is not Pakistan or India.
Sri Lanka are basically two games from a WC final and the top guys have to stand up and be counted.
Dilshan’s hundred was timely and his success at the top of the order will make a huge difference for the rest of the batting.
Malinga was wayward against Zimbabwe and his success will have a huge impact on the team performance.
The time has come to have a real shot at glory.
