Here are my rating for players performances during the ICC Champions Trophy.
1. Sanath Jayasuriaya – 3/10
Poor showing for a man who is struggling with his form. His reflexes have deserted him but he is a very hard worker and that is what is carrying him. I am appaled
that a guy who has played over 400 ODI’s does not read the play. He has been worked out by a lot of the bowlers who now bring the ball into him thus restricting his
2. Thilakaratne Dilshan – 6/10
Very good tour and should have been a 9/10 except of his brainless batting in the game against the kiwi’s. He got us to 60 odd after 6 overs and still wanted to try
and win the match in 30 overs. As a result we collapsed and lost the game thus bowing out.
3. Kumar Sangakara – 3/10
Had a shocker of a tour. His captaincy so far has been woeful. He should have got 1/10 except for his performance against the South Africans where he nursed Dilshan thru the innings.
4. Mahela Jayawardene – 5/10
Had a good tour concidering his record in South Africa.
5. Thilan Samaraweera – 4/10
Should never have been picked in the squad let alone play a game, but then again it is not his fault. Decent knock against England but the shot he played to get out was
rather dissapointing especially when he did the hard work to get set.
6. Thilina Kandamby – 8/10
Break through tour. The second best player on the tour. Cannot belive this guy was warming the bench in the 20/20 final when we had Chamara Silva and Jehan Mubarak
making fools of themselves.
7. Angelo Matthews – 9/10
Best player of the tour for SL. The guy can bowl, bat and field. Has got a mature head on his shoulder and in my view should replace Murali as the Vice Captain. A
future star in the making and potential captaincy material.
8. Nuwan Kulasekare – 6/10
Does not look like a strike bowler but has a nack of picking top order wickets. The boy can bat too. His knock of 50 plus saved the team a lot of embarrasment.
9. Muttaiah Muralitharan – 1/10
Had a shocking tour. Nothing to write home about for the number 1 wicket taker in ODI. Should have a hard look at himself as he does not take responsibility.
10. Lasith Malinga – 2/10
Poor performance by our main bowling strike weapon
11. Ajantha Mendis – 4/10
Average tour. Should have performed better against England and New Zealand who don’t read him particularly well.
12. Thilan Thushara – 1/10
Bowled badly in his only appearance. Should have worked hard in the nets while awaiting his chance. He has the ability but on the one occation we needed him he let us down.
