ICC 20Twenty World Cup 2009 – Not a whole lot to be optimistic about for Sri Lanka

I’m uncertain about our current team and it’s chances at the ICC T20 World Cup. Barring Dilshan and Malinga, the rest on show at the IPL were nothing special.

How is our batting order going to perform against top international bowlers when they struggled against Indian rookies at the IPL?

I’m not trying to be a pessimist. It’s just that there is not a whole lot to be optimistic about.

Mendis’ performance has slumped. Mahela looked good in patches, as inconsistent as he has been through his career. Sanath looked tired and weary – A sign of too much Cricket perhaps? Sangakarra struggled to find a good bat. I noticed him trying an unbranded Kookaburra, the Reebok bat, and finally the SS seemed to hit the sweet spot. You can’t really blame the bat. A good batsman should be able to use broom stick if he has to.

It may just all sort it’s self out. We may find that everything falls in place in the coming weeks.  One never knows with this Sri Lankan XI..One never knows..

I am, however, looking forward to seeing Isuru Udana, the left arm seamer. And this may also be Chamara Silva’s final opportunity in the Sri Lankan squad.
