Doublestandard AX needs JUST ONE 8 Ings LAPSE between 50+scores in 38 ODIs since Jan 2017- VICIOUS.!!!

A BIG ONE, PROBABLY a MATCH Winning INNING WOULD HAVE BEEN PRODUCED  in the LAST MATCH flopped due to lack of big 50 &  56 DOT balls….. IF HE WAS ALLOWED TO PLAY..! THIS IS AN UNDENIABLE  FACT WHEN YOU LOOK AT HIS PAST 22  MONTH BATTING RECORD. !

since 2017 January, over 38 innings, the maximum gap between Upul’s 50+ scores ranged from 0 – 8 .

in 2018, Just 7 innings allowed for UT, between his man of the match winning 50+ (series winning decider in BD) to that rare duck, before dropping the unsettling cruel AX continuously held over him.! Those in-between 7 innings included 2 x 36 scores as well and just one single digit score of 9!

In the SOLITARY previous occasion he had a GAP of MORE than 4 innings (7 innings) between his 50+ scores, Upul Tharanga  PRODUCED AN UNBEATEN 112* in 8 th inning followed up with another 61 in 9 th inning Vs Pakistan (in his 38 innings played during past 22 months).!!!

SO YOU CANNOT DENY THE LIKELIHOOD OF HIS DUE CENTURY or FIFTY PLUS (probably match winning one ) materializing in  the axed last match, that he was dumped to parachute the worst failure Kusal MENDIS (who wasn't even in the original squad) to make his THIRD CONSECUTIVE ZERO SCORE FOR POOR SL!.

True Upul Tharanga  got out for a duck in Dambulla (just the 2nd Duck in 38 innings played over 22 months), but such a PROVEN player with upfront boundary & six hitting ability at will  was sidelined to place a repeatedly stamped shorter format FAILURE like Kusal MENDIS ? THAT IMPOSSIBLE WAS HAPPENED DUE TO A LAPSE of JUST 8 INNINGS since his Series WINNING last 50+ in BD Triangular Decider !

I SERIOUSLY ASK EVERYONE< IS THE ABOVE RECORD LOOKS LIKE A PLAYER TO BE DUMPED LIKE THIS AT SUCH CRUCIAL A TIME ?

ATROCIOUS SELECTION DISCREPANCY at a Glance:

– UT: 2018 Provincial SUPER 4 DOMESTIC: 396 @ 66 AV / 109 SR – 2 X 100/  2 X 50 – 242 runs came from 47 x FOURS & 9 x SIXES.!

– UT: INTERNATIONALS:  1,315 RUNS @ 40 AV – 88 SR – 742 RUNS CAME FROM 154 X FOURS & 21 X SIXES from 38 odis played SINCE 2017

– this is just the 2nd duck in 38 odi innings played since 2017 !

– His replacement K MENDIS in 2018 :  0, 19, 36, 28, 3, 0, 31, 14, 38, 0, 0, 0  ( 6 SINGLE DIGIT Scores including 5 x DUCKS  within 12 innings causing ASIA Cup Exit – ( K Mendis 2018 – 169 runs @ 14 AV  from 12 Odis in 2018)

@ MGKJulius – some fools assume and call me as an alias of you, just because I view your effort as a genuine fight for the right. I agree, why should we fear to write against bite, when it is so obvious to everyone with a brain to think.

Tharanga is not a Bradman or another Sanga, but he is well above average Batter compared to useless current bunch including Chandimal, mostly find undeserved/non-earned regular spots despite their constantly pathetic delivery. They only know how to sink match after match in limited over cricket.

For example, look at Kusal Mendis, How come he was preferred by Coach & skipper, over Tharanga in recent ODI; Mendis scored his last 50+ score in 2017 June (16 months ago). He had been given <<<< THIRTY TWO (32)>>>> ODI Innings without a single 50+ score?

  4. This is very sad. Apart from
This is very sad. Apart from Mendis, I remember very well how, the guys like Dimuth Karunarathne, Chandimal, Kaushal Silva, Thirimanne and Kusal Perera etc, were allowed never ending long stints with highly unproductive strings of single digit scores without making any imaopct inning of 50 for a long while! If you look at their records , you will be amazed to see those stats with ample Ducks as well. Kusal Perera even has a world record for single digit scores as Opener played over 3+ years since 2013 to 2016 (because of SJ).

  5. I’ve written this before but
I’ve written this before but will again write it. From the time he came into the international scene I could never see Kusal Mendis with his flawed technique being a breakthrough for SL cricket. I still believe this even though so many past players and coaches have repeatedly emphasized he could be the next big thing. He is always going to be a hit and miss player unless he changes his approach. The same cannot be said about Dhanangaya de silva though, I feel he has a solid technique, a great hand eye coordination and if given a the opportunity to perform at a single position for a reasonable period of time he will come good. But the selectors and coaches keep changing, swapping and chopping him around. Apart from the well-known fact that the long term solution lies in improving the domestic structure it’s not going to happen overnight and the politics will never let it happen. What I find is that Sri Lankan cricket as a whole has this mindset that we don’t need to correct players from their flaws we should let them be hoping that they could turn into a freak like murali, malinga or sanath. But the reality is it only happens in very rare cases. We (Sri Lankan cricket) think we can be world beaters using mysteries and freakish mindsets. It is never going to happen; reality is that the game has grown so much that oppositions these days will work you out overnight and figure out your strengths and weaknesses. The only way to prosper is to go back to basics, back the players that have good techniques, give them stability in the team. Approach the game with a mindset to occupy the crease not to play a quick fire 20 or 30.

  6. Why do people call for Dimuth
Why do people call for Dimuth into the team when Chandimal is too there ,a similar slow innings builder.Dimuth is an option if Chandimal is not in the team eg injury ( because he won’t be dropped in spite of poor scores because he is the captain). It is just a set of unfortunate things happening for Sri Lanka at the same time. The main culprit I see here is Tharanga. The retirement of big three players would not have mattered much if Tharanga was able to raise his position. As the most senior & wonderful batsman in the past not only he should be a permanent opening batsman but the captain of the ODI team.We would not have had this problem of multiple captains & Mathews, Chandimal would not have even come to the picture. But he just flops & flops , show no leadership skill at all & a very poor fielder. His demeanour on the field is so appalling. He has become a completely a different player after his ban. True, Kusal Mendis’s form is poorer but what you all forget is he is young so this could be an investment.Still a hope I admit but with Tharanga at his age you don’t have even that, at his position what more experience should we give him? But I would like one day Tharanga to find his touch & return for a blazing end to his career, it is in his hands.

  7. I think keep playing kusal
I think keep playing kusal mendis. It’s not doing justice for his talent. He should get away from the team. Worked out his technical issues. Which are alarming. Especially the ball that comes back in doing the trick to him all the time. This not a technical issue that can resolved within a day or two. It will take time. For now kusal mendis is definitely out of the world cup squad. Other one is upul tharanga he is the most experience batsman at the current Sri Lanka odi squad. This is the time that he need to be on his prime unfortunately he is not. time is running for upul tharanga. I think he may play tomorrow game. If he does he need to win the match or else it will be his farewell game.i think tomorrow would be last match of thishara perera too. It’s being long time Sri Lanka being keep persisting with thishara perera. He won matches in the past.but whatever happen in past stays in the past. What matter is future. Future of thishara perera will be decided in tomorrow match. Lasith malinga again in the spotlight.upcoming matches will decide his fate as well.he is a match winner he have all the variation and all the skills but it is not good enough without a strategy. He always depending on his talent. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.thats what you see in his recent matches.

    @ AJ on October 19, 2018 – 08:47.#6:

The past was not so rosy for Tharanga (despite maintaining a well above performance record as Opener) as you think for him to capture his due place and captaincy as a senior guy.

You have forgotten how Tharanga’s career was virtually paused for Three plus 3+ yrs (2013 – 2017) not allowing him anything other than randomly given mostly occasional solitary matches with repeated in-between axing many months up to year apart and slotting in lower down positions ranged from No 6, 7, even No 9, to blocking him from settling & repeatedly destroying his batting rhythm with frequent axing. Just those 19 occasional innings spread over 4 yrs, never

Tharanga was AXED & sidelined for 4 yrs in prime time of his career @ the age of 28yrs!

This happened immediately after scoring 5,000 runs as the 2nd quickest SL batter (from 168 ings) to reach that goal, by making an unbeaten career best score of 174* Vs India (his 13th Ton came @ 28yrs) in WI. This cruel axing imposed in July 2013 by Sanath Jayasuriya (when Upul came close to breaking his record for SL highest individual ODI score & also made a world record for highest number of 7 double-hundred stands equaling Ricky Ponting).!

Upul was axed to place Jayasuriya’s so called replica Kusal Perera by SJ & given him an uninterrupted stint of 50+ odis (2013 2016) as Opener, despite 30 innings ended up under 10 balls & single digit scores!

Before blaming Upul for not raising his position to take over from retired legends, pl read the following to find out where he was placed, before that cruel ax wiped 4 yrs of his career @ 28yrs….

Following is SL’s All-Time Best Run-Accumulators in history, at individual 168th innings (Upul was Axed just after his 168th for 4 yrs) of their individual careers. Fortunately, (EXCEPT for luckless UT) none of their careers were ever seized or frozen as fringe players, after achieving such a level at this stage. Later, they all became world-class champions for SL.!

    1) Athpattu: 168 in – 5607 r – 132*HS – 38.14 Av – 66.84 SR – 7×100 – 42×50

    2)Tharanga: 168 in – 5339 r – 174*HS – 33.57 Av – 73.61 SR – 13 x100 – 28×50

    3)Sanga: 168 in – 5274 r – 138*HS – 36.12 Av – 74.28 SR – 5×100 – 35×50

    4)Dilshan: 168 in – 4915 r – 160 HS – 35.35 Av – 87.30 SR – 8×100 – 20×50

    5)Aravinda: 168 in – 4802 r – 107*HS – 31.38 Av- 80.11 SR – 3 x100 – 34 x50

    6)Mahela : 168 in – 4666 r – 128 HS – 30.90 Av – 72.80 SR – 6×100 – 23×50

    7)Sanath J: 168 in – 4582 r – 151*HS – 28.28 Av – 91.47 SR – 7×100 – 28×50

  10. From the way they sidelined
From the way they sidelined Tharanga even after having 40+ Average and near run a ball SR in past 22 months, (just because of such a brief lean patch) compared to rest of all in the team, I don’t think Hathurusinghe & Chandimal will allow Tharanga to play in coming WC as well.

Otherwise who would give his place to a guy struggling to survive 10 balls in the middle for over a year now and couldn’t even get selected to the original squad due to his shamefully costly performances AVERAGING ZERO in Asia Cup series?

  11. @Revelation:
    When there is a

    @Revelation:

When there is a sword hanging over your head all the time despite your achievements & seniority, NO BATTER can produce their best. The only time Tharanga (even as a senior pro) was relieved from that pressure was in 2017 with continuous opportunity & the secure feeling he had as Skipper, even he hits a brief lean patch.

But none other past or present senior player was never put under such pressure in late stage of their careers (ie: Mathews was failing over 3 yrs in Test cricket, but his Test place is always secure & never dropped if fit, despite his pathetic Test Averages 2016 -28Av/ 2017- 29Av /2018- 26 Av)..!!!

Without that immense pressure, no need to say how productive Upul became, producing his career best productive year in decade long career, putting up over 1,000 runs @ near 50 Av and 94 SR – 2 tons & 7 x 50+ scores (including a 95).

As a result, he became one of the only 3 players in world to top 1k runs in 2017! But look at the blog article, just 2nd duck from 38 innings in 22 months & eight inning lean patch lapse of a 50 is enough to kick him out, despite having maintained 40 av – 88 SR in past 22 months!

Imagine how does he feel when some failure like Kusal Mendis was preferred over him, after having all those seniority, credentials & hard work to acheive those runs for SL even in recent times?

AFTER ALL, UPUL IS A HUMAN BEING AND IT IS INEVITABLE WHATEVER MOMENTUM OR RHYTHM HE HAD BUILT WILL MELT… WHEN YOU SEE YOUR COACH & SKIPPER OBVIOUSLY WAITING TO FIND A SLIGHTEST BLEMISH IN FORM TO KICK YOU OUT ALL THE TIME!~ Age wise Tharanga (33) has at least 3 years left in him as a batter (all SL batters retired at 37 or 38) & the most fittest player among batters today. (Mathews 32 &in about year or 2 mostt of the other guys will be in 30s).

  12. @ MDK Julius aka Lium. What a
@ MDK Julius aka Lium. What a coincidence that all the Tharanga fans have similar writing styles lol. Bless you guys all! Well back to the point though, how do you explain the fact that Tharanga has only 11 man of the match awards for 13 years since his ODI debut and that too including 5 of them against Bangladesh or Zimbabwe? what is the last memory you have about him guiding SL to victory single handedly? Is that even close to ordinary?
