Chaminda Vaas has been left out of today’s game against the Mumbai Indians despite being this season’s third highest wicket taker.
At the start of the day Vaas was the 2010-IPL’s second highest wicket taker being only behind Muralitharan who holds the top spot. However, after Rajasthan Royal’s game against the Chennai Super kings, Shaun Tait has moved into second place ahead of Vaas by just one wicket.
Despite his success and his knack of giving the Chargers a great start with the ball, Vaas has been dropped for the express pace of West Indian Kemar Roach.
Gilshcrist opted for Fidel Edwards in 2009, whilst the experienced Vaas was side lined for much of the tournament. This year too one felt with the arrival of Roach both Australians, the captain Gilchrist and the coach Darren Lehmann, have proven to us that their infatuation with raw pace has overshadowed common sense.
