A welcome win…finally

Just seconds after an all important toss in 3rd one day in hambantota, Sri Lankan skipper tilakratne dishan was a cautious man. Opposite captain Michael Clarke won the toss and invite Sri Lanka to bat and, though in previous two matches dilshan, after winning the toss, was quite exited to bat first, this time around he wan not much exited. Reason, it was another typical Sri Lankan cloudy day in hambantota. Pith was wet and commentators preferred a pitch, could have been suitable for Australians bowlers.

But, as a player if you manage to make your mark in those kinds of situations, no one can stop you, from being considered as a great player. And so, Sri Lankan openers- dilshan and tharanga- did exactly the same. In 1st one day, they were too much aggressive, in 2nd one day, they were too much cautious. But finally, in 3rd match, they came with a more solid, and most importantly a normal approach towards batting. Another 100 partnership between them, which insured a big total.

But, all in all, it was a collective effort. Apart from openers, sanga again played a gem of innings. Actually, it’s pleasant to saw sanga in his best aggressive mood. And, in final overs, mahela came good as well.

But, there are still some worries. Most importantly, middle order is still a concern. In England tour, team had found a solution with emergence of dinesh chandimal and jeevan mendis. But against Australia, both they are looking pathetic. In chandimal case, its look like that he has some technical problems against off stump deliveries, which goes away from him. Another fact young chandimal should learn that he can’t repeat lord heroics in every match. In mendis case, it’s clear that he is unable to cop with the match’s situations, which is an essential quality for any middle order batsman.

Another notable worry is the inclusion of chamara silva. It’s really a mystery, how deeply selectors are in love with the guy. Whenever they see a vacant in batting line up, they include Silva. Its strange that players like bhanuka rajapaksha and thirimane are waiting their turn and selectors are in love with silva.

Game has a simple rule- if you win, supporters forget every weak point. So, Sri Lanka emerged as winner in 3rd one day, so no one pointed out towards silva failure. But, remember, series is still in grasp of Australia, with 2-1. So, if team wants to win the series from here, silva should not be in final XI. It’s as simple as that.
