Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has praised Sri Lanka’s cricketers for reporting an approach to underperform during an international match.

Batsman Kusal Janith Perera and left-arm spinner Rangana Herath reported an incident to the ICC in November last year immediately after they were approached to underperform during the West Indies series.

"Both Rangana Herath and Kusal Janith reported to the ICC that they were approached to underperform. They did the right thing. They complained as soon as the offer was made to them," Minister Jayasekara told journalists on Saturday.

"There are people who made the offer and we need to arrest them and stop them from influencing our players," Jayasekara added.

"But unfortunately, things have been taken out of context. People are accusing players of fixing games. I would like to reiterate the innocence of players. However, those people who prompted them to underperform need to be dealt with," Jayasekara further said.

"I would like to mention here that the players were called to the FCID to give evidence. We need to support the players. I would like to apologize to the players if they had been inconvenienced by any means," Jayasekara said.

Gayan Vishwajith seems to be the official pimp of SL cricket

It's pathetic that our captain and team management were okay with having this guy as a net bowler. I have no respect for them.
