Sri Lanka Cricket Quotes

"Over my 15 years playing international cricket, I only toured the West Indies twice, aside from playing in ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and the ICC World T20 in 2010, but every time I played here, it was a special experience."

"England didn't hire me to give information on the Sri Lankan team. They have analysts and coaches to do that. I'm quite disappointed to see those comments from the board, to be fair. By the World T20, I would have been out of the one-day team for 12 months, and out of the T20 team almost two years. If the tactics of that dressing room haven't moved on in that time - if they are still playing the same way - then there's a problem, isn't it? There are also a lot of new players in this Sri Lanka team that I haven't played with. But even for the guys like Angelo Mathews, or Lasith Malinga, or Dinesh Chandimal, isn't the challenge to keep evolving?"

"I had a lot of respect and gratitude for Mahela's knowledge, but now he's advisor to a competing team of ours. I'm very disappointed that a national captain, within a few months of retirement, has been retained by another team at a World Cup. You could go to a club, a province, an IPL kind of team, or a county. But this is a World Cup. You can't have a player who has just left your country's team joining a competitive nation. All the contracted players who are playing, once they retire from the game, should have at least 24 months before joining another team for giving advice or coaching."

"I made the decision to step away from top-class cricket only when I knew the time was right for me to leave and hand over the responsibility to younger members. At the moment I am enjoying the cricket that I am playing and I think I am headed in the right direction. The idea was always to step back after a fulfilling career and right now I feel I am having fun still playing in tournaments like the MCL. That was the plan all along and I doubt I will reconsider a comeback."

"First they said there were no cash, then no parking space. For five days of international cricket they are depriving 360 days of fantastic training opportunities for cricketers. There is no logic it is basically to hit at the interim committee. Ultimately it is the cricketers who suffer from such petty mindedness."

"I think one problem in Australia is coaches want to change someone's natural style. I'm more of the Sri Lankan mindset because players like Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan would never have made it if a coach said they cannot bowl like they do. So, I like to work on the kid's natural style and while I might tweak it I won't change them because kids need their individual style."

"It was really Lahiru Thirimanne and Dinesh Chandimal who were groomed to fill their shoes at no. 3 and no. 4. Of course, you can see there's still a long way to go before they can fill those shoes."

"I think Sri Lanka's fast-bowling stocks are pretty underrated to be honest"
