Sri Lanka Cricket Quotes

"Much of the criticism about his inability against South Africa in South Africa, was dispelled for me when he scored a magnificent 108 off only 190 deliveries with 13 fours at Kingsmead in Durban in 2011/2012 when Sri Lanka won their first test on SA soil by 208 runs. It was not easy conditions to bat in, as the wicket was ‘spungy’, but Sanga played brilliantly."

"I was so happy for Kumar. He was a man with a purpose. It is a long time since I have seen him leave so many balls outside off stump but he was determined to get that hundred."

"This is unquestionably one of the greatest batsmen of his generation, but the draw is not to watch him because one wants to but because one ought."

"[Scoring a century at Lord's] is something I've always wanted to do. Coming on this tour, which might be my last Test tour to England, I just wanted to enjoy it. If it happened, it would happen. I just did a bit of preparation, changed a bit in my technique right from the start and I'm pretty happy it worked."

"Accommodating difference and valuing individuality are the most important things in a dressing room. For us, it’s been like that with Lasith (Malinga). He is very different in the way he looks and as a person. There are certain people you might not have dinner with, but that doesn’t take away from the fact they will be valuable players in a national cause, going out trying to win matches. I don’t know the reasons for KP’s exclusion but he’s an amazing player. I’ve watched him, admired him and he is undoubtedly an out-and-out match-winner. Of course, as an opposition player I’m not disappointed he’s not around. We know what damage he could have done to us. To not have him walk in — that presence he has — is a bit of a relief."

"I am taking a tour at a time and assessing myself. Personally I don’t think I need to prove anything to anyone it’s about me challenging myself and see whether I can keep improving and most importantly contribute to the team"

"Sri Lanka has become a vital force in world cricket. England supporters may think they are the lesser touring side this summer, because they have been granted only two Tests whereas India play five. But maybe Sri Lanka are making a bigger contribution to the sport’s health and growth than India, given its obsession with the IPL – or England."

"There are very few guys who are able to bowl six yorkers in a row. Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga is the best at it and even he doesn’t try and do it all the time. He’ll mix it up with a slower ball, maybe a bouncer. Predictability at the back end is very dangerous."
