Sri Lanka will find it difficult to choose their seam options for the first test. It all depend how the individuals bowled rather than the wicket tally. How many good balls bowled and the consistency. Kumara is grate addition but all depends on how the others bowled. According to the reports the venue at Port Elizabeth may offer some spin so Playing Dilruwan Perera as the second spinner can be considered even though he is not my choice for the second spinner.
He's got the most wickets but there's no way to say how well they bowled, their economy and wickets tally may not tell the whole story. Chameera has just come back from injury and played one matches I believe since his injury, but he is faster than Kumara and is a similar type of bowler (fast, aggressive and bowls more short of length stuff). It'all be interesting what they go for.
I wouldn't go for Dilruwan Perera at all, his control isn't good enough and it win't be like Galle where it'll spin a lot and make up for that.
He could be a better choice than Lakmal.But all 3 of Chameera Pradeep and Kumara are simillar bowlers to some extent.That may work in Lakmal's favour.
Its great if we can have a pace attack,all 3 can clock 140 consistenly and get the best out of the bounce on offer.
But I think Mathews and Sanath would go with Lakmala instead
Yes we should but we will go with Lakmal because he is the senior guy. I presume Chameera and Pradeep pick themselves.
If the practice match makes an impact, I'm afraid that Chameera might miss out the 1st test. Not only he was wicket less but also he was giving too many runs. Pradeep seems to be in a decent rhythm and Kumara has taken his chances with both hands by taking wickets and being economical so it will be quite unfair if he is not picked. So the interesting questions to be answered are;
**Will they Pick Dilruwan?
**Who will be the favourite between Upul Tharanga and Kusal Perera? Both got runs in the practice game.
**If Kusal Perera plays,what will be his position? 1 down or late in the order. Because He made a half century as an opening batsman in the practice game.
I think we missed the trick by not picking Rajitha and Shanka. In South Africa bowlers don't need express pace to trouble the batsmen. Only thing they need is to pitch on the right area. Rajitha is may be useless in subcontinent but in seaming conditions he could be lethal. Same thing applies to Shanka. But from the players selected Vikum Sanjaya could be the surprising package. He did not bowl much but is it because of the management wanted to preserve him and not to expose him ? If its not I think his selection is a total waste considering Gunarathna, Shanka, Dickwella all left behind. Anyway we can't comment on him cos I don't think anyone has seen him much in the action so its not fair. I do not like Lakmal as he is not a thinking bowler. Chameera may be wayward but always has X factor when he is bowling with his pace. So my choice is Pradeep, Chameera, Kumara.
