ok i honestly think the current bunch should hang around till end of this year - next year onwards we gradually need to phase out our kingpins.
Bowling IMO looks a bit ok. We notice that Thirimanne has come of good lately - Him Tharanga and chandimal (despite his recent failures) needs to be given the go ahead. Rotate the seniors after next year - we really need exposure for our fringe players after all Players like Sanga and Dilshan weren't world beaters when they started out did they? It took sanga 3 years to score his first ODI ton, and from there he never looked back.
Also the heartening thing is that we seem to do well in Aussie conditions of late - 2 reasonably good tours to Aus in late 2010 and early 2012. Nother tour next year - the WC in Aus in 2015 plus a side that seems to do well there - fingers crossed.
this might sound crazy at this point, but i think its high time at least one of the big three(dilshan, sanga and mahela) to call it a day in ODIs(not that they lack talent or performance)
SL need to groom a new pair of openners and a new 'no.3 batsman'. giving them(chandimal, thirimanne, mathews) that opportunity, after they hit 30yrs of age will create more pressure on them.
I think its the fault of dilshan, mahela n sanga, sanga atleast better than the other two coz he keeps well, but i think dilshan shud bat at no 5 in ODIs n mahela at 3 or 4, dilshan doesnt use his brain wen he bats, tharanga shud open in ODIs n get mathews to bat a bit higher if hes the vice captain.
I think it is time for Dilshan to retire from tests and later in ODIs as he looks terribly out of form and at the wrong end of the 30s. Sanga and Mahela have every right to stick around at least for another 2 years time.
I think the present set of players should be persisted with till the T20 World Cup.We need youngsters in the team but it should be balanced and they need to be groomed carefully. Chandimal, Thirimanne,Perera, Sachitra all need to play around the seniors.Mathews with all his injury problems shouldnt be burdened too much by bringing in even more youngsters. We need to restructure our T20 team after this years World Cup maybe with Angelo as captain.
Presently, our main problem is inconsistent batting. For now Sanga or Mahela should bat down the order and either Thirimanne or Tharanga should open with Dilshan.
We need to mix the seniors properly. I say bring back Tharanga to open with Dilshan. Then Sanga and Chandimal, then Mahela Thirrimane, Matthews and so on. Id also like to see Jeevan Mendis in as well
I think we should give more opportunities to youngsters in top order and big 3 should bat 5,6,7 (sanga, mahela, dilshan) , we should drop dilshan immediately from test matches and i think both mahela and sanga should retire from t20 after the world cup give more oppertunities to kandaabby, angelow perera, bhanuka rajapakshe(tests) , dimuth , bhanuka, kusal janith, chatura pieris , mahela udawatte (ODI's), chature pieris, ashan priyanjana , chamara kapugedara, chatura pieris, nuwan pradeep(t20) and i'm sure there are more players that we don't even know this is job of selectors and management but they are real morons so fans have to pointed out these things i hope one of those morons will see these things and acts upon it
All of above are interesting comments and shows that fans are v knowledgerble.I feel at last WC, Sanga, Dilshan and Mahela kept scoring against the minnows and others down the line did not get a chance. If they got, it is for last few overs.A person who sufferd most was Chamara Silva. And he was dropped for final. In March against Aussies or England he got a continuous run and he scored a match winning 60 in last ODI. I think later on a tour against Aus. he played in 2 matches going late. He was dropped for SAfrican tour and vs Pak but came as replacement in a hurry in final game vs Pak and he failed. Dropped again and in domestic season scored a thousand runs and 160 vs a visiting team but not selected for either Aussie tour or Asia cup.
It looks that he has been given many chances but at same time hardly a continuous run. This is where he and others like Kandamby, Mubarak, Mahroof, Kapu,Jeevan and earlier Chandimal did not get a proper go at No 6 or 7. If only once in a way, one of Mahela, Kumar or Dilshan is pushed back to accommodate any of the above 5 , they will get a proper test but certainly not at No 6 or 7. Even Dilshan at 6 or 7 did not get a fair chance and he blossomed only after opening. Same with Chandimal. Recently Kapu was sent early and he scord a fair 65 in Asia cup. 3 years ago Mahroof was a hard hitter (now he is sent No 6 or 7) but now he has no confidence. Give the borderlines confidence by sending them one at a time early and if then they do not succeed, drop permanently.
There are some who mature in their 30's like Graveney, Katich, Lehmann,Atapattu, Hayden and I feel Chamara Silva is another who was very impatient and reckless in his 20's. That is why i will still bahk on him as he has shown in last domestic that he can stick arountd and was leading run scorer by a mile.He is a poor chap from the outstations and no one to espouse his cause.
The leading trio do not want to give up their places lest the others perform well.

But what changes do we make?
I wonder how much not getting paid has affected them. SLC still owes the players money, eh?

Do not drop any of these seniors.Let's drop youngsters and if Mahela and his fans need, batting coach Marvan.
These seniors need money.Let the poor seniors earn some!!!
