Sri Lankan army with the 1996 Wills World Cup at Jaffna
Submitted by Sujan on January 19, 2011 - 04:35

Sri Lanka Army joined hands with cricket fans and enthusiasts in Jaffna to convey their best wishes to the Sri Lankan cricket team taking part in the ICC World Cup 2011. A replica of the 1996 World Cup was brought to the centre of the town in a procession preceded by the Western Band of St. Patrick College and placed for exhibition. Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Raviindra Pushpakumara (R), who was a member of the 1996 World Cup squad, is also seen next to the trophy.

The most beautiful cup among all other versions.
Is that kept in SLC Head-quarters in Colombo? Will I get to see it if I visit Sri Lanka?

Thanks for posting, Sujan.
That's Ravindra Pushpakumara in the photo on the right. Last I heard, he was helping kids in the north with their cricket. He was leading a talent search up there, too. The trophy is a replica of the '96 WC which is touring the island to drum up support for the current WC.
I added that to the description above, Sujan.

Oh! So that's Pushpakumara.. I had a chat with him sometime back and he had invited me to WC 2011 in SL, unfortunately I haven't got my passport yet. Would love to visit such a wonderful country once.
At least SL ppl get to see a replica of WC 2011, here in India we don't even remember how it looked like or where it is placed in closed doors.
Why not visit SL for the WC and witness a few matches? What do you mean by 'No Passport'? Did you have a "Fall" in your country (where ever you live) by mistake? Surely, you must be having a SL passport to travel on a holiday. It will be nice if you can be there in person to watch a few important games like the match against Australia.
