The under-19 mess

Sri Lankan cricket hit a new low when the country’s under-19 cricket team finished ninth in the ICC Under-19 World Cup that ended last Sunday in Queensland, Australia. Sri Lanka were knocked out in the first round after humiliating defeats to South Africa and Bangladesh.

This is a worrying sign at a time when SL are seeking young talent to take over from the numerous players on teh wrong side of 35. The really worrying thing is in the past there always seemed to be obvious replacements for the national teams. From the time of Gurusinghe, Mahanama, Aranvinda, Marvan and Mahela it was always a case who would need to make way for these guys to enter the team. Far cry from the current situation!

Bangladesh played really well
Truth is selections were bias... While school in Moratuwa had 3 players in the squad... some other top perfomers in schools were ignored... good lesson to muppet selection commitee...
