The opener’s slot

get tharanga or thirimane to open in ODIs,

n get dilshan to bat at no 5, so we got experience n a hard hitter in the lower order, he never usese his head wen he opens, if u check he has scored well as opener only in batting tracks.

If angelo mathews is the vice captain get him to bat up the order if not just drop him.

"It's pathetic how Dilshan confronted the bowlers upfront. Swinging and slashing at every ball like a clown."

I totally agree!

Earlier, the logic was your best batsmen should make use of fielding restrictions. But now, with power-plays spread out through the innings and two new balls as well, things have changed.

But moving players up and down the order may have also had a negative affect, no?

I think it's time Mahela moved to the middle (maybe number 5 or 6) and made a position there his own and helped out by giving this brittle batting line up some depth.

Make Tharanga open get Dilshan or Mahela down its 50 overs you need players like Tharanga who can stay and carry the innings we don't need batsmen trying to hit and get out early. we have a great middle order lined up it will get stronger if Dil/mayyia comes down. We have a great batting line up ther performance has not been in form.

Having a player with experience in the middle order secures young players they can play freely knowing we still have the experience guy to come in. It also gives a chance to the young player to play with the experience player and learn a lot helps take important decision with what to and not to do at that particular moment reduce the pressure no panic mode.

Bring down Mahela or Dilshan benefits alot to the team it gives experience, attack down the order when its need most of the time (finishing job). Bringing one of them down gives a chance to Mathews to come up the Vice captain. I think he could Contribute strongly by coming up.

Its important to take the right decision at the right time. Looking at how the boys are playing its time for a change. 50 overs something we cant bat through its a shame.

I feel that Maharoof should open. Just a view, may be am wrong. He has done quite well in the domestic scene as an opener. Give him the freedom to play his shots like Arjuna did to Kalu.

Having Mathews and Perera along with him brings a great all rounders balance to the team. This was very evident in Australia when all 3 played together for the 1st time which we won.

Lets not forget that Maharoof can be handy with the ball too. I think he needs to improve in his fielding. He has been a super filelder in the past.

Experiments should be done now. Sanga, Mahela, Dilshan, Herath, Dilhara will reach their mid/late 30s in 3 years from now.

Having Maharoof at the top, Mathews at number 3/4 and Perera at 5/6/7 would be ideal. We have the best all rounders.

I conclude by saying "do not forget Banuka Rajapakse". He can come good in the top order.

@ Dela - Maharoof ??? Even He can not be in the playing XI because Thissara is a far more consistent performer than Maharoof and well deserve the place in the XI.

The day Dilshan, Sanga and Mahela retires, who are we going to replace them with??

Who is going to be our next opening batsman to partner Tharanga?

Chandimal will be taking over the gloves after sanga, but we need the mentality of sanga and mahela in the middle order who will be able to handle pressure very well. We need to groom them now or its too late(Referring to bringin in new players to fill thier positions).

We should start look at resting a few senior players and giving some new faces some continuous opportunity.

Like in the article i think Mahela needs to move down the order, Its not about winning every series, its about making new champion players to replace the retiring champions.

Anon, i never said that Thisara should be dropped.

dilshan/tharanga can open now and then we can later move thirimanne to open

BULL! Batting order is OK. If they FAIL drop them? If Mahela, Sanga, Dilshan all don't score a 100 every 5 matches drop them and send back to club cricket? Simple?

For Test matches-Upul Tharanga and Tharanga Paranavithana and dilshan can play in the middle!!
but i feel that it depends on the situation..the opposition and the pitch!!(ODI)
