Apparently SLC did not cover his medical expenses when injured at the IPL. It's Mumbai who did.

I think it's fair. But I also think they will further alienate their players, instead of securing their services through diplomacy.

This is the same complaint we had with Arjuna and Duleep remember? I think it's time we realised that SLC officials aren't holding office to set examples or teach people lessons. They are there to ensure team Sri Lanka's success. And players are the key to our success, not officials/administrators who come and go pretty fast.

This mentality we see with SLC officials is similar to someone saying: "Do as I say, or else!"

Don't you think that instead of including such clauses they should be trying to accommodate Malinga's request because he is a unique case and a valuable player?

agree with you hilal, but then that's how people talk or express their thoughts in sri lanka. dont know how to handle a situation.

There is nothing wrong if SLC doesnt cover his medical expense when he gets injured in the IPL.But the article suggests that his medical treatment was covered by SLC.
Anyway its a fair deal, you sign the contract and make use of everything or if you dont you cannot.

What great here? Malinga can and should afford his expense, No need of money from SLC, as he is going for English T20, IPL, Bigbash . I think this step SLC just trying to create fear with new and younger players. I think not great idea though.

@Sulaimaan: Ultimately, there is nothing here that will encourage Malinga to sign a contract, which is what we should want our administrators to achieve, no?

With these clauses, Malinga can't even use the SLC gym or nets! Who will that hurt?

in 1980's when some of our players went to rebel tour in south africa, and their careers ended by cricket board there after. We lose very good players, but it was made a chance to players like gurusinghe, mahanama, hashan , aravinda too. Like that if malinga goes another one will come. No one bigger than team . Atleast young players must learn it. But on the other hand cricket board deliver it's duty .

Malinga's job is not to set examples but to win us matches. Match winners don't come around very often, so treat them like a rare commodity.

These are not schoolboy cricketers, they are adults who are world-class athletes. Cricket board officials should not be on a war path with players.

I support a player's right to choose and administrators who strive to ensure players choose Sri Lanka over other commitments by choice.

No one at SLC has made any effort to find ways to increase revenue apart from depending on tours. This is shameful because Sri Lanka are World Cup runners up and that alone is a money-maker if you had a capable marketing team. If we had qualified, well paid professionals running the show at SLC I'm sure they would understand the revenue potential in their website and the Sri Lanka Cricket brand.

Maybe if the board had money coming in through these previously unexplored channels (just one example is through their website), they can pay wages to players which prevent them from having to choose other commitments over SL.

Instead of blaming the people who are responsible for this mess, you guys are blaming players? That's just ridiculous and unintelligent to me.

I don't think any of you will work for a lower pay for Sri Lanka? We love our country but we surely love our family and our well-being first?? Why doesn't this apply to our cricketers?

We always say "we cant pay as much as Australia and England to our players". ECB and Cricket Australia didn't become rich boards overnight. They invested in qualified professionals to make them rich.

So, let's use our brains before we criticise players. They are a valuable asset and we should not encourage our officials to treat them like children with threats.

When a bowler think his duty only to bowl 10/4 overs , and nothing involve in other departments what's the point of his rare commodity?
