Sangakkara's reign is South Africa's pain

How he pipped Sachin Tendulkar for the People's Choice Award, voted for by the public, was the enigma of the evening. Perhaps Kanye West could have quietly asked around. Tendulkar is one of the most popular cricketers of all time.

Surprised to read such a stupid article by Andrew.
Cricketer of the year had to be none other than Sangakkara for the no. of games he played in all three formats and for being consistent as well.
And what is this writer implying by referring to Marvan and Moody being in the panel.

Andrew might have succumbed to some temptations that infringe him at nights of no-sleep.
Shame on you bro...!

Good work and written as neutral. Well done Andrew Fernando.

first of all i was(hopfully still will be in the future) a fan of andrew's articles on cricinfo and other places.
Of late he seem to be suffering from the same illness which ails SL tv commentators(roshan abeysinghe, michael de zoysa & ranjit fernando). In a valiant effort of TRYING TO LOOK "NEUTRAL" to the rest of the world, they put down THEIR OWN! Thinking that devaluing their own people would make them look 'UNBAISED'
This same trait was very obvious in his reports/reviews of SLPL.
I don't think any of the Indian writers questioned Kholi's ODI award, while he scored 13 out of 15 centuries in the sub-continent( most of then against SL too!)

Uppercut 7 : I agree with everything you said including being a fan on AF writing until recently. he has however removed the most offending portion of his article. Sakthivel perhaps read the revised version or has a chronic case of myopia.
i have to however point out that i think Russel Arnold has been better in his commentary than the other guys in being both balanced and standing up for SL. plus Sanga too during his short mike stint. hope that is a sign of things to come.
i hope the cricinfo articles from the FEW sri lankan writers there would follow suit.

and i forgot Sanath ; not the most articulated but still good perspective. maybe these guys are not intimidated by the 'suddas' anymore.

@silon yes russel is probably the better commentator from SL at present, and sanath to a certain extent since he provides pretty good 'insight'. That's why i didn't name them in my post. Sanga probably will be the best, if he ever take up commentating.
Btw have u notice the absence of 'flood of articles' on espncricinfo praising, which would've surely been there had an indian or an englishman won the 3 awards! :D
