Firstly this statement by Nishantha is utter nonsense.
If he is not ready now, then what was he doing all this time as batting coach and assistant coach? Wasting time or learning?

If I recall correctly SLC did the same tatcic to Marvan when it came to captaincy, saying he was not ready and went with a disastrous split captaincy when they made Hashan Test captain alongside Marva in the shorter format.

Secondly the board should be prepared to go after the best available for key positions regardless of cost. You can't mess around with key positions like captain and head coach, chairman of selectors etc. They have a direct impact on the teams onfield success, and you would think Nishantha should realise than the onfield success is the key to off field success in terms of things such as marketing, sponsorships, media contracts etc...Something that has been stuffed up in recent past! No one wants to be involved with a team that is struggling to win.

Thirdly Nishantha can not blame foreign coaches for wanting extra insurance policies in terms of their contract after what the board did to Geoff Marsh. If SLC come out and publicly give the exact reasons as to why exactly his contract was terminated early instead of some nonensene excuse they may get back some credibilty.

Finally if there is no money. Perhaps those responsible should admit their faults and get out of the board. Nishantha has been there right through this mess and is accountable more than own. Money will be saved for essential needs if he gets out or is kicked out of SLC!

I should have mentioned above I am not endorsing Marvan as the next head coach. Just if he was promoted to assistant from batting coach then the peopel that made this decision must have thought be was ready to step up.

He's got an okay cricket brain, and was a technically sound batsman, but whether that translates into a great coach is different story. If Nishantha thinks he needs more experience as an assistant, then ecourage him to gain such experience abroad in a different environment and come back later on rather than hang around doing nothing.

What message does it say to applicants for the head coaching when you say they only got the job till 2015 regardless of their success and then someone else takes over.

Personally I would love to see us snare Dav back for another stint, or if its going to be a Sri Lankan, reward someone who has done the hard yards like Hathurusinghe. Sadly that us unlikely to happen under the present regime.

Nishantha,
I find your response to Marvan’s credentials as a possible head coach for Srilanka is quite amusing. If you don’t rate him then why is he there as a one of the forerunners? Remembering you are the one who got him there through the back door as a batting coach and promoting him as an assistant coach and of course clearing the deck so now he in the running to become the head coach? We all know the amount of clout you exert on the board, so don’t give us fibs. You being a panel member on selection committee, you want us to believe that you didn’t have any say who will get the nod?? Come on!!

You must have looked yourself in the mirror lately and must have felt that by appointing Marvan as a head coach, he will take Srilanka cricket to uncharted territory or should I say to the lowest ebb possible!! So you are having second thoughts!! May be you have conscience after all Mr Nishantha Ranatunge!!
That’s good to hear, now that we all know you have Srilanka Cricket’s future in your heart, so please do we all a favour?? Remove yourself and take Marvan with you. Srilanaka cricket would be in a better place without you.
