February 18, 2011 (Island Cricket): Sri Lankan middle-order batsman Chamara Silva will miss Sri Lanka’s opening game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 due to the death of his older sister - Nelum Anusha Silva.

Silva left the team hotel on Thursday upon receiving the news of her death.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) media manager Brian Thomas told reporters that the 31 year old will not feature in Sunday’s match against Canada. He will rejoin the squad on Tuesday, in-time for Sri Lanka’s match against Pakistan on February 26.

Along with Silva, team manager Anura Tennekoon, too, has left the squad due to the unrelated death of his father.
