Sri Lanka on Mark Waugh's Cricket World Cup favourites list
February 04, 2011 (Island Cricket): Mark Waugh believes that the battle for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 will be waged between four teams, who he names as favourites to win.
Waugh, twin brother of former Australian captain, Steve Waugh, opened batting for Australia during the 1996 Cricket World Cup and has played 128 Test matches and 244 ODIs.
Now a television commentator in Australia for Fox Sports, Waugh told the The Northern Star that he felt the battle for the World Cup would be waged between Sri Lanka, Australia, South Africa and India.
"It’s probably between Sri Lanka, Australia, South Africa and India," he said speaking on the side-lines of a coaching clinic at the Oakes Oval in New South Wales.
Fourteen teams vie for a chance at becoming World Champions in the 10th edition of the tournament, which starts on February 19 and will be played across India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
