Sri Lanka name 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup squad

January 07, 2011 (Island Cricket): Sri Lankan selectors have named their final 15-man squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas and Suraj Randiv are the notable absentees.
Captain of Sri Lanka's 2007 World Cup side, Mahela Jayawardena, has been named as the vice-captain.
The squad is as follows:
Kumar Sangakkara (captain), Mahela Jayawardene (vice-captain), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Silva, Chamara Kapugedera, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Rangana Herath.

I assumed Suraj Randiv was a certainty to make the squad. But, the rest of the XV is fine. Lets now back all of them and hope they chip in and perform to the best of their abilities and talent.
We dont have to over-analyze and dissect team selection; Aravinda de Silva, Amal Silva and Ranjith Fermnando know much better than all of us put together.
Also, releived that Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas did not make the squad - both of them would have destroyed the current team spirit and unity. Thank you Aravinda and Co...the applecart rolls on.

Why play Randiv in so many matches if he wasn't going to be picked for the world cup ? confusing...

it would have been a real tragedy for us if jayasuriya would have been selected..now there would be no divisions in the team and we can play our best..
in the meantime,goodbye uncle jayasuriya...it was sad to see the way u humiliated yourself by your behavior in the last couple of years....'assume your greed got better of yourself..

Yeah, its rather baffling as to why Suraj Randiv was omitted from the squad. I think we're all confused...open mouthed and wide-eyed. I cant wait to hear the explanation from the selection panel.
mr Aravinda silva this is not test match world cup,what the hek u select samaraweera,,,,stupid decision,,sanath is better than samaraweera,.....mendis is anthor wrong selection,,,all the teams are plyng mendis vel,,,,dilhara,he is a marketing mannerger of sri lanka bowling no bowls,wides,and givinglot of runs,vass shd be the best for tht place...
Not trying to blame u ARA....
But I think randiv and vass should play world cup.
And i think Sana also should have been in this 15. One great knock
from him would really lift the team.
