Sri Lanka today announced their final 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 2012 which takes place in September.
Two uncapped players Dilshan Munaweera and Akila Dananjaya have been included.
Dananjaya, an 18-year-old with no first-class or List A experience, was initially picked in the 30-man preliminary squad thanks to a recommendation by captain Mahela Jayawardene. With a wide repertoire of deliveries, including a doosra similiar to Saeed Ajmal's, Dananjaya has been impressive in the ongoing Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL).
Munaweera's selection has been felt as long overdue by the local media. He is viewed as a hard-hitting opening batsman who strikes the ball cleanly.
Ajantha Mendis, who has missed competitive cricket in recent times due to injury, has made his way back into the squad after a good showing at the SLPL.
Mahela Jayawardene has been named captain, and Angelo Mathews has been picked to be his deputy.
The ICC World Twenty20 gets underway on September 18 with hosts Sri Lanka taking on Zimbabwe in Hambantota.
Squad: Ajantha Mendis, Akila Dhanajaya, Angelo Mathews (VC), Dilshan Munaweera, Dinesh Chandimal, Jeevan Mendis, Kumar Sangakkara, Lahiru Thirimanne, Lasith Malinga, Mahela Jayawardene (C), Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Shaminda Eranga, Thisara Perera, Tillakaratne Dilshan.
