Lasith Malinga has returned to Sri Lanka from the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a result of a back injury, according to secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Nishantha Ranatunga.
Ranatunga told the Hindustan Times that he was unaware of how serious the injury was but confirmed that Malinga was back in Sri Lanka.
"Malinga has returned to Sri Lanka due to an injury. I don't know the exact nature of his injury but he will be examined by the SLC physio in due course," Ranatunga said.
However, Malinga's team at the IPL the Mumbai Indians have maintained that the Sri Lankan paceman will be available for upcoming matches and that he is suffering from a sore back.
