Kumar Sangakkara acknowledged today that it was a "great honour" to be the first player to be named both Wisden's Leading Cricketer in the World and one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year.
Wisden announced on Wednesday that in the 2012 edition of its almanack Sangakkara had been picked as one of its Five Cricketers of the Year for 2012 as well as Wisden's Leading Cricketer in the World 2011.
"It's a great honour. [I am] very humbled and privileged," Sangakkara, who is currently in India captaining the IPL team Deccan Chargers, said speaking to reporters there.
"I have had a good year in 2011. Hopefully, I will have a couple of more fruitful years before I finish."
Meanwhile, Island Cricket was unable to seek comment from Sangakkara due to a recent ban enforced by Sri Lanka Cricket that prevents players from talking to the media outside of post-match press conferences.
