Stats, facts and figures for Sri Lanka - CB Series 2012

CB Series LogoSri Lanka have yet to win a tri-series in Australia despite taking part in eight such tournaments since 1985. Their first tri-series game was against the hosts at Sydney on January 8, 1985, when the tournament was known as the Benson & Hedges World Series Cup.

However, in 1996 and 2006, they reached finals but lost on both occasions to to Australia.

In all, Sri Lanka has played 73 matches in the competition and have won 18 matches and lost 54.

Their highest total, 343/5, was made against Australia in 2003 at Sydney, while their lowest total, 91 all-out, came in 1985 at Adelaide also against the hosts. In 2006, Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 94 runs at Brisbane, which is their largest margin of victory in terms of runs. In terms of wickets, Sri Lanka's 8-wicket victory over India in Canberra is their largest margin of victory.

From the current squad, with 1121 runs in 36 matches, captain Mahela Jayawardene is the highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka in the competition. With 1029 runs in 27 matches (ave 41.16) Kumar Sangakkara follows in close second.

Sangakkara's 128 against India at Adelaide in 2008 is the highest score by a Sri Lankan. In the 2006 edition of the tri-series, Sangakkara made 469 runs in 11 games, which is the most runs made in an Australian tri-series by a Sri Lankan.

Lasith Malinga leads the wicket-takers' list for Sri Lanka from the current squad. Malinga has 12 wickets from eight matches, all of which came in a single tournament (2008).

The Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series 2012 gets under-way on February 5, with Australia taking on India in Melbourne.
